For XpandedReports to work with QuickBooks on Vista:
- UAC: User Account Control must be turned on.
- Standard user permissions: Both QuickBooks and the XpandedReports must run with standard user permissions (NOT elevated to run as administrator).
This section covers how to configure UAC and Standard user permissions.
User Account Control
Windows Vista has the built-in ability to automatically reduce the potential of security breeches in the system. It does that by automatically enabling a feature called User Account Control (or UAC for short). The UAC forces users that are part of the local administrator's group to run like they were regular users with no administrative privileges.
Using Control Panel to enable UAC
Open Control Panel.
Under User Account settings click on the "Add or remove user accounts".
-
Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.
NOTE: Depend on the how Vista is configured, you may skip this step. -
Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link at the bottom of the page.
-
Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
NOTE: Depend on the how Vista is configured, you may not have "Change security settings", skip this step.
-
In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to select the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
-
You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.
In order to re-unenable UAC just select the above checkbox and reboot.
Run with standard user permissions
- Right-click on the QuickBooks desktop icon.
- Choose properties on the pop-up menu.
- Select the Compatibility tab
- Under Privilege level at the bottom, make sure administrator selection is unchecked.
- Repeat for XpandedReports.
The install page has some additional integration information.
